Our 2nd World’s Biggest Coffee Morning at Play2Day

Play2Day Coffee Morning 2012

Last year’s Coffee Morning proved that you really can have a good time while supporting a charity at the same time, so we did it again!

Our Ten Pin Bowling Centre provides us with an excellent location with comfy chairs, tables for the stalls and a bar for serving lots of good coffee.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Almost everyone knows someone whose life has been affected by cancer and Macmillan provides a team supporting those affected by cancer every step of the way.  So we all get together – businesses and individuals who generously provides prizes, the stallholders, our customers, staff (who donated prizes and came in on their day off) and our special guest (see below) to do our bit!

Our special guests: our Mayor and Town Beadle

There were many Coffee Mornings today so when we were notified that our Wisbech Mayor, Councillor Mrs Viv MacRae had accepted our invitation we felt just a little bit privaledged!   She was accompanied by the Town Beadle, Mr Alister Hopkins who also attended last year’s event and Play2Day’s Got Talent two years ago (he likes our hot chocolate!)

After enjoying a coffee and chat with our customers I took the opportunity to show them around our Family Entertainment Centre, including the extension we added to our Indoor Children’s Play Centre two years ago and our Lazer-Tag Arena which we constructed last year.

The Mayor played Lazer-Tag?!

Having met both Mrs Viv MacCrae and Alistair Hopkins before I know they are hard working, friendly and sociable, but would they accept my offer of a game of Lazer-Tag? Of course they did!  The three of us played and Mr Hopkins blew us away with his stealth and accuracy to easily win!

Our stallholders

Our stallholders offer a range of interesting items to peruse and purchase;  Zoe Elsegood with Chocoholics, Karen with Something Silver, Lisa Bradley with Jamie at Home, Cheryl Jakes with Phoenix Cards, Tamsin with Not Too Shabby, Margaret Fiske with FM Cosmetics.

How much for Macmillan Cancer Support?

Together we raised around £420 for Macmillan Cancer Support, a little less than last year but still a siazeable donation considering we’re living in a period of austerity. Thanks go to our generous sponsors:  Booker Cash & Carry, South Lincs Food Service, King Bros., Coca Cola, Starbucks Coffee, staff, customers, stallholders and of course our Mayor, Councillor Mrs Viv MacRae and the Town Beadle Mr Alistair Hopkins.
